Grateful this First Full Moon

Counting my blessings...

Greetings Beautiful Beings,

I hope you rang in the New Year in your own, unique way. Several people close to me are going through serious health challenges and it reminded me to stop, be grateful and count my blessings. Life comes with no guarantees, and it's "what happens while when you're busy making other plans", as John Lennon noted.

So please, let this be your friendly PSA to pause and take a deep breath. Celebrate the wins today! Practice contentment for what you already have, what you've already accomplished and who you are today. Hug your loved ones and tell them how much you love them. Forgive yourself and others. And, most importantly, be kind. No matter how someone looks or acts, you truly never know what’s happening in their lives. That’s why it’s so important to lead with kindness as often as we can.

Give everyone the benefit of the doubt instead of taking something they say or do personally. Instead of getting frustrated or annoyed, try to take a breath and trust that they are doing the best they can.

You may never know how much a small act of kindness will affect someone.

New Beginnings

The sprouts growing on the left are from a regular looking pumpkin. On the right, and still going strong, is the pastel, fancy, artisinal looking pumpkin, both purchased at same time from Miami Shores Presbyterian Church pumpkin patch. Accepting guesses for how long fancy pumpkin lasts!

We can change and grow like our Halloween pumpkin, sprouting into the unknown of new beginnings. Your yoga practice will show the way, keep coming to your mat.

I have been teaching Yoga since 2005, but my recent teachings come from Iyengar Yoga and I hope to receive my certification Fall 2023!

Iyengar yoga is named after and developed by B.K.S. Iyengar who was a direct disciple of T. Krishnamacharya. Together with Pattabhi Jois (who developed Ashtanga yoga) he was partly responsible for bringing the practice of modern yoga, as we know it now, to the West.

Yoga Expo Returns
By Diana Dalton 03 Feb, 2023
It took me many years to start practicing yoga consistently. I would take a class and then be so sore that I wouldn't return, sometimes for months! This went on for years until 2002, when my mom was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. I knew deep in my heart that I needed to change my lifestyle or I would be facing the same situation. Fear is an excellent motivator! I knew I couldn't make these big changes on my own. and I also knew Yoga was an entire blueprint for healthy living, even if I was pretty fuzzy (ignorant) on the details. I took a leap of faith and signed up for Teacher Training at Synergy Yoga in Miami Beach to deepen my practice and find out what all this yoga business was about. I graduated in June 2005 and began teaching immediately. 18 years later, I can say with confidence it was one of the smartest decisions I ever made. I am healthier, stronger and have more ease and freedom in my body and mind than I ever could have imagined. Yoga works, you just have to do it! The first ethic in yoga is ahimsa or nonviolence. Had I known this when I started practicing, I might have been more gentle with myself, not pushed so hard, and been so sore that I did not return for months... I say might, because that person was pretty rigid- in body and mind- so maybe I wouldn't have gotten the message! While we might come to yoga for any number of physical reasons, trust that the practice infuses all aspects of your being and life. It really is a gift, a gift I treasure so much I've made it my life's work to share it with you. May you learn from my mistakes without having to repeat them. I invite you to start on your own yoga journey. Join me for Yoga 101 Miami, let's be healthy together!
