Summer Lovin

Love ~ be excellent to each other ~ Plus free yoga classes!

Welcome friends, welcome summer! Embrace the heat by vowing to go with the flow. Why complain about something as inevitable as summer heat? It's been ages since I've written and even longer since I hit publish, and I hope to change that. But today we have right now, so let's make the most of it.

I find great comfort in the concept of santosha or contentment. Best practiced by accepting and appreciating what we have and what we are already, and moving forwards from there. When I find the thoughts ruminating to be less than helpful, I come back to santosha, to what is already ok, right now (which is usually a lot) and that gives me the space to breathe, and connect to present moment awareness, where everything belongs.

Make no mistake, it is my yoga practice that keeps me afloat and surfing the waves of life. The weight of our modern world's mass shootings, wars, climate crisis, poverty, racism, divisive politics, illness and loss could easily drown anyone. Yoga is my life raft!

Yoga Homework

It's excellent to practice yoga at home- even just a few minutes a day can relieve stiffness and improve mood. Try the kitchen counter stretch or Urdhva Badanguliasana (upward interlocking finger pose above) while you wait for your coffee in the morning- report back, I want to hear your progress.

Peace Is This Moment Without Judgement

A Poem by Dorothy Hunt

Do you think peace requires an end to war?
Or tigers eating only vegetables?
Does peace require an absence from
your boss, your spouse, yourself?...
Do you think peace will come some other place than here?
Some other time than Now?
In some other heart than yours?

Peace is this moment without judgment.
That is all. This moment in the Heart-space
where everything that is is welcome.
Peace is this moment without thinking
that it should be some other way,
that you should feel some other thing,
that your life should unfold according to your plans.

Peace is this moment without judgment,
this moment in the Heart-space where
everything that is is welcome.

Yoga Expo Returns
By Diana Dalton 03 Feb, 2023
It took me many years to start practicing yoga consistently. I would take a class and then be so sore that I wouldn't return, sometimes for months! This went on for years until 2002, when my mom was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. I knew deep in my heart that I needed to change my lifestyle or I would be facing the same situation. Fear is an excellent motivator! I knew I couldn't make these big changes on my own. and I also knew Yoga was an entire blueprint for healthy living, even if I was pretty fuzzy (ignorant) on the details. I took a leap of faith and signed up for Teacher Training at Synergy Yoga in Miami Beach to deepen my practice and find out what all this yoga business was about. I graduated in June 2005 and began teaching immediately. 18 years later, I can say with confidence it was one of the smartest decisions I ever made. I am healthier, stronger and have more ease and freedom in my body and mind than I ever could have imagined. Yoga works, you just have to do it! The first ethic in yoga is ahimsa or nonviolence. Had I known this when I started practicing, I might have been more gentle with myself, not pushed so hard, and been so sore that I did not return for months... I say might, because that person was pretty rigid- in body and mind- so maybe I wouldn't have gotten the message! While we might come to yoga for any number of physical reasons, trust that the practice infuses all aspects of your being and life. It really is a gift, a gift I treasure so much I've made it my life's work to share it with you. May you learn from my mistakes without having to repeat them. I invite you to start on your own yoga journey. Join me for Yoga 101 Miami, let's be healthy together!
