Non-Attachment
Dear Beautiful Ones,
I hope this finds you all safe at home! I've been pondering the idea of non-attachment this week- initiated by a bottle of water spilling onto my laptop. It made me realize that practicing non-attachment, or remembering the True Self, is a helpful contemplation for all of us during this unprecedented time.
Yoga is the uniting of conscious in the heart. In the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, sutra 1:12 teaches us that this consciousness is elevated by practice and non-attachment. Devoted practice and non-attachment are two wings of the same bird. Complementary companions as they flap in unison enabling the bird to fly.
When we focus on non-attachment, we naturally identify less and less with external desires or wants. With this attitude, nothing binds us. We are delighted when life brings gifts, and though momentarily upset when things don't go our way, with the grace of remembering our Divine Self, our emotional equilibrium is quickly restored.
This is obviously a work in progress, and it is worth the effort. Luckily for me this time, my laptop dried out and it's working again. But not losing my mind those 48 hours it was in a bag of rice was a gift of peace that I'll gladly take.
